Part point-and-click adventure, part jigsaw, part logic puzzle, part narrative story, fully delightful.

Fragments Solara is the introductory adventure in a new series of narrative games by Iello Games that uses a twisting, flipping, jigsaw mechanic. Starting with just one fragment set off on a mission to track down your lost companion, uncovering even greater mysteries as your adventure unfolds.

As well as a visual piece of the story, each fragment contains iconography that tells you how the piece can be manipulated or interact with others, allows you to reveal new fragments, or instructs you to read narrative from the adventure book. Every flip of a fragment or page of the adventure book will progress the story in a way which is delightfully clever.

I’m being deliberately vague with details and images as I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone, but Fragments honestly blew my little mind.

A tutorial is provided, including a handful of fragments to show you how the mechanics works – it can be a little mind bendy to start with. A great touch meaning you’re less likely to reveal information too soon in the main story.

There’s no competition or score to beat, just a puzzly story that you can unravel and explore at your own pace, and there’s a solutions book if you’re really struggling to make the next connection

Fragments can be returned to their punchboard so the game can be fully reset. That said, once you’ve played it, you know the story and so it isn’t replayable – at least not for a while!

While there are dozens of fragments you’ll constantly be adding and removing them as the story evolves so you won’t need more space than your average coffee table could provide.

I’ve never played a game quite like this. The design is incredibly innovative and the story left me wanting more. Needless to say I’ll be getting my hands on the next set of adventures as soon as I can!
