Hi! I’m Sam – welcome to my blog where I’ll be sharing board game reviews from the perspective of a (mostly) solo gamer.
My love of board gaming began in 2023, when I met my (now) fiancé. I don’t think Simon imagined that introducing me to a cosy game of Patchwork would, within a matter of months, turn me into someone obsessively playing Ark Nova on Board Game Arena.
As much as I enjoy BGA, it can’t compete with the tangible experience of a physical board game. The catch was that Simon didn’t fancy playing every night of the week. (Personally, I think he should be prepared to deal with the consequences of his actions and feed the monster he created, but 🤷.) And so began my solo board gaming career.
That obsession has only grown since. I now play a new game most weeks, and along the way I’ve developed a real passion for reviewing solo modes; sharing what works, what doesn’t, and whether a game’s solo experience actually holds up against playing it with ‘real’ people.
Crunchy euros are where my heart lives and always will, but I’ve grown to love cosier, lighter strategy games too, so you’ll find a genuine mix of everything here. I’m also a member of the UK BG Review Circle, which means I’ll be sharing previews and reviews of upcoming titles to help you decide what’s worth a spot on your shelf.
